The Caribbean Employers Confederation (CEC) held its 45th
Annual General Meeting on April 7, 2005 in Hamilton, Bermuda. Over 17 delegates
of 14 National Employers’ Organisations of the Caribbean met to discuss their
accomplishments over the past year and their direction for the upcoming year in
this increasingly challenging global environment.
A new Board was elected who will carry out its member’s
mandates in 2005-2006. The member countries represented were; The US Virgin
Islands, Trinidad and Tobago, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and
the Grenadines, Suriname, Jamaica, Grenada, Dominica, Bermuda, Belize, The
Bahamas and Antigua and Barbuda. The International Labour Organization's
sub-regional and Geneva offices were also present to support the regions
objectives.
During the meeting, a full report was provided by the CEC on
its accomplishments for members over the year with key emphasis on its
representation on ongoing lobbying positions for the Caribbean in the
International Forum in reference to Labour Relations and its social dimensions.
Members presented country reports which outlined common
problems and solutions in line with CSME, The Global Compact, Industrial Action
and other relevant national agendas to contribute to a smooth integration in the
new regional and international regime.

The
AGM which occurred on the closure of the ILO Sub-Regional workshop
which focused on the promotion of social dialogue for enhanced
productivity and competitiveness for the region carried the common
theme over to the AGM and the CEC's responsibility in representing
the Caribbean region with one strong voice as it strives to compete
in the Global environment.
